Unfortunately although medication is very important it can also cause unwanted effects called side effects. All medications can cause side effects but this doesn’t mean that they will – the effects vary from person to person. If you experience side effects what you should do is talk to your doctor or nurse about the options. If you are otherwise happy with the medication you are on there may be ways to manage the side effect, or you may be able to swap to a different medication which doesn’t have the same side effect.
The types of side effects which can occur with antipsychotic medication include; weight gain, increased appetite, feeling tired or sleepy, feeling agitated, shaking or restlessness of the legs, twitching of muscles, a dry mouth, excess saliva in the mouth, headaches, dizziness, and sexual side effects.
There are other possible side effects. If you think you may be experiencing any side effects from medication, talk to your doctor or nurse as soon as possible.
